In December 2024, the FASB issued an invitation to comment on the recognition of intangibles. The Board solicited stakeholder feedback on whether it should pursue standard setting on intangibles and what intangibles or groups of intangibles should be included in the scope of any project.

In our comment letter, BDO said that it does not believe there is a need for a broad project to address the accounting for intangible assets given the diverse nature of those assets. Instead, BDO recommends the Board continue to pursue targeted improvements to separate types of intangible assets, initially focusing on the guidance for acquired in-process research and development.
